Labour’s candidates for Portsoken, Munsur Ali and Jason Pritchard, have written to the City’s chief Executive John Barradell.
They are demanding the City rethinks how to pay £200,000 taken from a fund for local residents on the Middlesex Street Estate.
The bottom line is that all residents (leaseholders and tenants alike) have been short-changed by the Guildhall. Monies from a recent property development earmarked for window improvements were diverted to the Aldgate gyratory scheme.
Guildhall has agreed to compensate Petticoat Tower residents affected by paying for the window improvements out of the Housing Revenue Account (HRA).
Labour doesn’t think this is good enough. Why should HRA funds that could have been spent, for example, on landscaping the entrance on Artizan Street be ‘highjacked’ for an administrative convenience?
