Another Middlesex Street massage parlour (Health One Massage parlour at 66 Middlesex Street, London E1) has had its licence revoked following campaigning by Portsoken Labour Councillor Jason Pritchard.
On Thursday 13 September Tower Hamlets Licencing Committee took the closure decision after investigating officers were offered inappropriate services of a sexual nature.
Tower Hamlets officers were encouraged to shut the premises down by Cllr Pritchard in an email dated 30 June 2018 following a successful prosecution of the owner in the Thames Magistrates Court. This led to further investigations by Tower Hamlets Officers and a decision by members to revoke the owner’s licence to operate a massage parlour.
Speaking after the hearing Cllr Pritchard said: “This is a very encouraging example of Labour councillors working collaboratively across local boundaries.”
The local Labour Party campaign was inspired by Middlesex Street residents petitioning both the City of London and Tower Hamlets councils investigate all massage parlours and sex establishments in the vicinity of the Middlesex Street estate in the wake of the 2017 Common Council elections. The petition was presented to the two councils in April last year. This swiftly led the closure of the massage parlour on the City side of the street in December 2017.
Beyond the Streets is a national charity working to build routes out of sexual exploitation for women. All funds raised from their guided tours support their Door of Hope project, which offers routes out of sexual exploitation for women in East London. To find out more visit:
