Over the past few weeks many residents have contacted to say that they cannot make the weekly surgery times due to family or work commitments. Weekly surgeries are currently being held from 17:45pm – 18:45pm every Tuesday at either the Artizan Street Library or the Portsoken Medical Centre.

We are pleased to announce that Councillors Munsur Ali and Jason Pritchard will be offering doorstep advice surgeries over the next four weeks to compliment the weekly surgeries being offered. These doorstep surgeries will be starting this Friday 28th April on the Middlesex Street Estate from 10am – midday.

Cllr Munsur Ali says “We are always looking for new ways to listen to the views of the residents in the ward. I know people lead busy lives and don’t always have to time to come to one of our regular surgeries. This will hopefully ensure we can see more people over the coming weeks, find out what’s bothering you and ensure your voices are being heard.”

To make sure Munsur and Jason know to call at your door, you can call them on 07834 342479 /  07930 600325 or email: labourportsoken@gmail.com

Please note, the regular weekly surgery time and dates will not be affected. The next weekly surgery will be held on 2nd May 17:45pm – 18:45pm at the Green Box (Portsoken Medical Centre, Little Somerset St, London E1 8AA)

On Wednesday 12th April, newly elected City of London Common Councilman, Jason Pritchard met with Tower Hamlets Deputy Mayor Shiria Khatun and LBTH Head of Environmental Health and Trading Standards David Tolley.  He handed to them a petition on behalf over 100 residents from Portsoken ward. These residents are concerned at the apparent spread of massage parlours along Middlesex Street –  the boundary between the City and Tower Hamlets.

The petition is calling on the City of London and London Borough of Tower Hamlets to investigate all massage parlours and sex establishments in the vicinity of the Middlesex Street Estate to ensure:

  1. compliance with their licencing and all other statutory requirements
  2. public order offences are being logged and acted on appropriately
  3. that if any such premises are operating without a licence that enforcement action is taken promptly

Cllr Jason Pritchard said “This is an issue that can only be addressed by working across our two jurisdictions. I look forward to working closely with colleagues in Tower Hamlets over the next four years to tackle this and other issues faced by our communities.”

Deputy Mayor Shiria Khatun said “It was a pleasure to meet with Councillor Jason Pritchard. The petition presented will be looked in to and I will keep Councillor Pritchard informed with updates on the issues highlighted.”

City of London Common Councilman Munsur Ali said “This is a big concern for residents on the Middlesex Street Estate. We will make sure that these massage parlours are effectively regulated and closely monitored to ensure all public order offences are being logged and acted on.”
